<\/a>Bio
\n<\/strong>
\nWith a father who was a glass artist, Maya Wakabayashi was exposed from an early age to the vivid colors and transparency, the delicacy and strength, the very dichotomies of the medium of glass; a beauty which she felt was not present in other expressive media. She was also attracted by the hammer wielding forging techniques of metalwork and honed her craftsmanship at the Tokyo University of the Arts through graduate school. During her studies, she became singularly obsessed with the \u201cpresence which cannot be seen\u201d such as “spirit” or “mind”, creating works that represent the image of how people have come to embrace nature.<\/p>\n
